The Project

GRECO is an innovative project designed to address key challenges in the bioeconomy and sustainability sectors. Coordinated by the prestigious Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, GRECO brings together a consortium of experts from 14 European countries, working towards creating impactful solutions that advance the bio-based industry.

GRECO’s
Methodology

GRECO adopts a comprehensive methodology aimed at ensuring real-world impact. Our approach is rooted in scientific research, market insights, and a deep understanding of policy frameworks. This collaborative model allows us to develop, test, and scale solutions that can help shape a greener future.

Our Work Packages

The GRECO project is organised into a series of Work Packages, each addressing a key step in the development of innovative, safe, and sustainable food packaging solutions. Together, these Work Packages cover the full pathway from defining technical and market requirements, to developing new bio-based materials, coatings and treatments, and assessing their recyclability and biodegradability. They also include industrial scale-up, validation by end-users, and evaluation of environmental, economic and social impacts, as well as consumer perception and labelling. Finally, GRECO ensures effective communication, market strategy, and project management to maximise impact and support the transition towards circular and bio-based packaging solutions .
